Curator-in-Residence Programme, Copenhagen
Period from 1 to 31 May 2025
The Department of Arts and Culture of the City of Munich and the Goethe-Institut Denmark, in cooperation with FABRIKKEN for Kunst og Design, Copenhagen, invite proposals from visual arts curators based in Munich to a four-week residency at FABRIKKEN in May 2025. The residency offers the opportunity to build networks with professional Copenhagen-based artists, to get to know the Danish art scene, and to develop ideas for new projects.
FABRIKKEN is a not-for-profit art institution that provides studios and workspace for more than 70 professional Copenhagen-based artists and designers. FABRIKKEN is guided by the spirit of professionalism and exchange and also comprises a 1.000 m² space, which is mainly used for artistic production and a variety of events including exhibitions.

Key information
- Free use of an individual studio at FABRIKKEN
- Free accommodation in a furnished room in the home of a local artist or curator: the curator-in-residence will dispose of a private bedroom but share kitchen etc.
- Flat-rate travel allowance: 700 euros
- Flat-rate allowance towards museum entries: 100 euros
- Stipend: 1.700 euros
- Professional networking advice and facilitation by Charlotte Malte and Maria Gry Bregnbak (FABRIKKEN) as well as Barbara Honrath and Claudia Marchegiani (Goethe-Institut Denmark)

Application procedure and criteria
To be eligible for this residency, the applicant must be a Munich-based professional visual arts curator. The programme does not accept Danish nationals. We particularly welcome applications from early- to mid-career curators, who can document exhibition experience and curatorial practice.
Applicants are asked to submit a short project proposal for the residency, including a list of Copenhagen-based artists that are of interest to them. FABRIKKEN and the Goethe-Institut Denmark will take the curator’s wishes and interests into consideration when planning the residency.
Online meetings between the selected curator and the relevant contact persons in Copenhagen will be conducted prior to arrival in preparation of the residency.
Application documents
- A motivation letter (1000 words max.) including:
- a short explanation of the motivation to be a curator-in-residence at FABRIKKEN
- a project proposal for the residency
- a list of artists the applicant wishes to meet during the residency
- Updated CV with link to the applicant’s website/social media account
- Up to 6 images and/or a video/audio extract (no longer than two minutes) as well as links about relevant curatorial projects.

Selection process
A committee of representatives from the Department of Arts and Culture of the City of Munich, the Goethe-Institut Denmark and FABRIKKEN will select a candidate.
We will inform you by December 2024 whether or not your application has been accepted.
