1st place bitkom Smart City Index 2025
The digital ranking by the Bitkom industry association compares major German cities with populations of 100,000 or more. Munich achieved first place for the third consecutive time, ahead of Hamburg and Stuttgart. Munich achieved first place in the society and education category with 96.2 points and an impressive full score of 100 in the mobility category.
1st place IW Consult / WirtschaftsWoche / ImmoScout24 City Ranking 2025
This ranking examines what it is like to live and work in Germany's 71 independent cities with over 100,000 inhabitants. Munich once again takes first place in the level ranking.
2nd place IW Consult Regional Ranking 2026
IW Consult analyses the economic performance and dynamic development of Germany's 400 districts and independent cities. The Munich District is in first place, with the City of Munich in second.
3rd place PROGNOS Zukunftsatlas 2025
The Zukunftsatlas ("Future atlas") assesses how well regions are positioned for the future based on demographics, labor market, competition and innovation as well as prosperity and social situation. Scoring third place, the city of Munich is particularly strong in the areas of labor market, competition and innovation. The district of Munich is even more successful, topping the current rankings. City and district combined show the economic strength of the entire region.
3rd place Talent City Index Germany 2024
For the Talent City Index, Future Place Leadership and terratalent asked around 6,000 professionals in Germany where they prefer to work and live. With its economic strength and large employers, Munich offers enormous advantages and is ranked third overall. Munich even leads the index in the categories of family friendliness, quality of life and security.

1st place Monocle Quality of Life Survey 2024
Monocle's annual Quality of Living Survey has become a cornerstone for assessing the standard of living in the world's cities. Munich is ranked number one. It analyses factors such as access to green spaces and a city's cultural vibrancy, as well as the availability of public facilities and life expectancy.
4th place QS Best Student Cities 2025
The QS Best Student Cities Ranking compares 140 cities worldwide based on student ratings. According to the ranking, Munich is the fourth best city in the world to study in, after London, Tokyo and Seoul.
17th place Global Tech Ecosystem Index 2025
In Dealroom.co's Global Tech Ecosystem Index, Munich is the only German city and one of only four European metropolitan areas to be listed among the top 20 global ecosystems. Munich stands out in the “Density Leaders” category - as a city that produces a particularly high number of start-ups and technological investments.
