1st place bitkom Smart City Index 2024
The industry association bitkom ranks German cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants in relation to smart city developments. In 2024, Munich came first for the second year in a row, ahead of Hamburg and Cologne. Munich scored particularly well in the categories IT & communication and administration.
1st place IW Consult / WirtschaftsWoche / ImmoScout24 City Ranking 2024
The IW Consult, WirtschaftsWoche and ImmoScout24 City Ranking examines life and work in 72 German cities with a population of at least 100,000. Munich was ranked first for the 20th time.
2nd place PROGNOS City Ranking 2024
PROGNOS analyses how much quality of life 71 cities offer their more than 100,000 inhabitants. The attractiveness of a place to live is assessed in the categories of ecology, mobility, social affairs, digitalisation and work. Munich comes in second place, behind Ulm.
3rd place Talent City Index Germany 2024
For the Talent City Index, Future Place Leadership and terratalent asked around 6,000 professionals in Germany where they prefer to work and live. With its economic strength and large employers, Munich offers enormous advantages and is ranked third overall. Munich even leads the index in the categories of family friendliness, quality of life and security.

1st place Monocle Quality of Life Survey 2024
Monocle's annual Quality of Living Survey has become a cornerstone for assessing the standard of living in the world's cities. Munich is ranked number one. It analyses factors such as access to green spaces and a city's cultural vibrancy, as well as the availability of public facilities and life expectancy.
2nd place A.T. Kearney Global Cities Outlook 2024
The Global Cities Outlook analyses the future prospects of 156 international cities based on quality of life, economy, innovation and governance. Munich is ranked second and scores particularly well in the area of innovation.
4th place QS Best Student Cities 2025
The QS Best Student Cities Ranking compares 140 cities worldwide based on student ratings. According to the ranking, Munich is the fourth best city in the world to study in, after London, Tokyo and Seoul.
11th place Mercer Quality of Living Survey 2024
The international management consultancy Mercer regularly analyses the quality of life in major cities around the world. Munich ranks 11th in the top 15, making it one of the world's cities with the highest quality of life. Among other things, Munich scores points for economic prosperity and a wide range of cultural activities.
