Description

The Munich Pass is a voluntary service provided by the City of Munich and offers a wide range of discounts at municipal and non-municipal facilities (e.g. MVV, museums, sports facilities, swimming pools, cinemas, theatres, zoos, etc.).

Important information for students and trainees

You can receive the München-Pass if you fulfil and prove the requirements listed below. If you are applying for the Munich Pass because of a low income, please remember to enclose your full proof of income with your application! It is not necessary to submit a certificate of enrolment or a training contract.

Required documents

  • valid ID (copy of ID if applying by post)
  • Notification of benefits according to SGB II or benefits according to SGB XII or
  • Notification from the Office for Housing and Migration or
  • Notification from the child benefit fund or
  • Proof of income, assets and rent or
  • Proof of participation in the Federal Voluntary Service or
  • Proof of participation in the Voluntary Social or Ecological Year.

Questions & Answers

The Munich Pass is available to the following Munich citizens:

  • Recipients of current subsistence assistance or basic income support (SGB XII),
  • Recipients of citizen's allowance (SGB II),
  • Recipients of benefits under the Asylum Seekers' Benefits Act (AsylbLG),
  • people taking part in the Voluntary Social or Ecological Year, volunteers as part of the Federal Voluntary Service
  • People with a monthly net income below the Munich income threshold for voluntary benefits that applies to them. Since 1 January 2025, this also includes students and trainees.

    The current Munich income limit is:
    • One-person household: 1,820 euros
    • each additional person aged 14 and over: 910 euros
    • each additional person up to and including the age of 13: 550 euros

      This results in the following exemplary net household incomes:
    • One-person household: 1,820 euros
    • Two-person household: 2,730 euros
    • Family with 1 child up to 13 years: 3,280 euros
    • Family with 1 child aged 14 and over: 3,640 euros

      Monthly net income includes, for example: salaries/wages/remuneration, training allowances, wage replacement benefits, pensions, additional income (such as mini-jobs), income from self-employment, child benefit, maintenance payments, income from subletting/letting out and leasing and so on.

      In addition, the limit of assets to be utilised in accordance with SGB XII mustnot be exceeded. This is

    • 10.000 euros for each adult
    • 500 euros for each child

Unfortunately, au pairs cannot obtain a Munich Pass

      The current Munich Passes, which are issued without a photo, can only be used together with a valid photo ID. This also applies to children aged 16 and over.

      No, except for participants in the Federal Voluntary Service, the Voluntary Social or Ecological Year. Here it is sufficient that you do your service in Munich and stay overnight in Munich.

    • Monthly ticket S in the area of validity of the selected zones
    • Discounted day tickets for the inner city: up to 15 day tickets as single or group day tickets or up to 20 children's day tickets per month.
    • The monthly ticket S and the day tickets are not transferable.
    • Tickets cannot be returned, refunded or exchanged.
    • When travelling on the MVV, you must always have your own München-Pass (i.e. all persons) with you in addition to the ticket (i.e. the Monthly Season Ticket S or Day Pass) and show it to the ticket inspector on request. If you do not have the München-Pass with you, you will have to pay 60 euros (increased fare) yourself!

    • The monthly ticket S is available at every MVV point of sale (including vending machines). Daily tickets can be purchased at any of the twelve social centres and at the Office for Housing and Migration.

      There are various concessions or discounts of varying amounts when visiting

      • Swimming pools
      • Sports facilities/clubs
      • Museums
      • Buildings
      • Cinemas
      • Zoos
      • Theatres
      • Adult education centre
      • and other various facilities

      You absolutely need the München-Pass for the discounted use of public transport (monthly ticket S or discounted day tickets).

      If it has expired, please go immediately to your

      • responsible social centre or
      • your local housing and migration office

      and have your yellow or grey Munich Pass extended there.
