Water law permit - building in flood areas

A permit or authorisation under water law is required for the erection or extension of structures or measures in floodplains.

Required documents

The application form must be submitted with the documents specified in the form for a water law permit or authorisation.

In addition, the information sheet on the flood-adapted design of the construction project must be submitted if authorisation is required.

Duration and costs

Processing time

The processing time is four weeks to three months, depending on the complexity of the case.

Fees and charges

For a permit: up to 0.6 per cent of the construction sum, depending on the amount of work involved.

For an authorisation: 50 euros to 4,000 euros, depending on the amount of work involved.

If you wish to install a well to irrigate your private garden with groundwater, you must give at least one month's notice.
