Press Office Oktoberfest Munich

The festival site will remain closed during the dismantling of the Oktoberfest. Filming and photo work is not possible. Entry permits are not issued.

Filming permits for the set-up of the fair will only be issued to media for reporting purposes up until 17 September. Please submit your request at least 48 hours before the scheduled filming date.

Filming permits will be sent out by e-mail after verification and are valid for the entire set-up period from 7 am to 9 pm.

Permits for commercial purposes (film, marketing or advertising) or for topics not directly related to the Oktoberfest will generally not be granted for the entire construction site area during the set-up phase. For safety reasons, admission to the tents is not permitted while they are being erected.

For photo, film and sound recordings involving little effort, no filming permit is required on the fairground (Feststrassen Oktoberfest and Oide Wiesn) if:

• shooting and photography serve exclusively the purpose of journalistic reporting
• only small-scale equipment is used (equipment required with a volume of < three litres or < 20 cm x 15 cm x 10 cm)
• no other aids or superstructures are used (e.g. barriers, spotlights)
• no more than five people are involved in the shoot

Entry permit required
Under certain conditions, an entry permit is also required for journalistic reporting. This is issued:

• if the equipment exceeds the permissible size (> three litres or > 20 cm x 15 cm x 10 cm)
• for more elaborate filming (e.g. involving more than five people, additional superstructures)

Commercial filming: 
Filming and photo shoots for purposes other than day-to-day journalistic reporting on Oktoberfest (e.g., marketing, advertising, feature films and documentaries, magazines, sports shows, gaming sector) require a permit and are generally subject to a fee. Please apply for such permits in writing to the Department of Labor and Economic Development by email at oktoberfest.presse@muenchen.de or via this link:

Reporting from the Munich Oktoberfest will be possible without accreditation . This means that a filming permit is no longer required for journalistic picture and TV reporting using simple equipment.

With large-scale equipment:
In order to ensure access to the fairground with required equipment that exceeds the permitted size (three litres or 20 x 15 x 10 cm) and for more elaborate filming, a permit must be applied. You'll find the link under the “During the Oktoberfest” tab.

Note: Only those using large-scale equipment need to apply for a permit. For all others using simple equipment or none at all, no separate permit is required.
All entrances can be used, including the pedestrian subway from Theresienhöhe (Entrance P 14). Please show the printed permit to the stewards without being asked.

• For recordings in beer tents and at fairground rides and other fairground traders’ establishments you must obtain separate permission from the relevant provider.
• In order to film or photograph police, rescue and ambulance operations, permission must be obtained from the relevant press office (see “Other contacts”)
• Photography using drones is not permitted. There is an official ban on flying over the fairground! Drones are not allowed to fly in the area of Theresienwiese during the fair.
• Free tickets to the Oide Wiesn are available to members of the media at the Oktoberfest Press Office at Theresienwiese Service Centre (SZT).
• Filming and photo shoots for purposes other than journalistic reporting (e.g., marketing, advertising, feature films and documentaries, the gaming industry) require a permit and are generally subject to a fee. • Influencers/Content Creators:
  Creating content at the fairgrounds is subject to permit and licensing requirements under certain conditions. Please review the information on this page under the “Influencers/Content Creators” tab and use the online form for your request

If you create social media content for platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, and others, and do so for direct or indirect commercial purposes, such content is subject to approval under the Oktoberfest Verordnung (Oktoberfest Ordinance).

Examples of commercial use of content include, among others:

• Promoting a product, platform, or service at the festival grounds
• Filming for content creation on social media or online platforms that generate revenue or are intended to make a profit (sponsorships/collaborations, affiliate marketing, sponsored posts, pre- and mid-rolls, product placements, sale of exclusive content (paid subscriptions, or similar), proprietary merchandise)
• Holding contests or raffles that have no direct connection to Oktoberfest

The granting of permits for filming is at the sole discretion of the City of Munich and is subject to a license fee. Brandness GmbH has been commissioned by the City of Munich to process license applications. The license fee is determined on a case-by-case basis.

If a license request is not submitted in advance or is submitted late, a retroactive license fee will be charged. Please note that retroactive enforcement of violations of these regulations will result in increased fees due to the associated administrative burden and may also be accompanied by legal action.

The following are prohibited on the festival grounds:

• Broadcasting live streams
• Conducting any form of advertising
• Appearing with mascots or similar characters
• Barricading or blocking streets or walkways
• Disturbing visitors during their stay and failing to respect their personal space
• Disrupting the event in any way
• to express or disseminate racist, xenophobic, anti-LGBTIQ*, sexist, violence-glorifying, or right-wing or left-wing extremist slogans, or to discriminate against population groups through statements or gestures.

The Oktoberfest Press Office is located on the side of the Theresienwiese Service Centre below the Bavaria Statue in a container at Matthias-Pschorr-Str. 4. Access is possible from the back of the Festhalle Schottenhamel: it is easier if you hold a press pass, but this is not a condition for admission.

Before the start of the Wiesn, the Press Office is only staffed irregularly on site up until September 14. You can always reach us by phone or e-mail.

The Press Office team can assist with:

• Interview requests and arranging interview appointments with the Oktoberfest Director
• Enquiries about the event
• Enquiries about the Oktoberfest as a tourism destination
• Filming permits for media
• Purchase of tickets for media representatives to the Oide Wiesn
• Provision of workstations with wireless LAN

No accreditation is required for reporting from the Munich Oktoberfest. This applies to all conventional and online media. 

Accreditations for the tapping box in the Festhalle Schottenhamel are issued exclusively by the Press and Information Office. The accreditation tender notice is published in the Rathaus Umschau.

Accreditations for the Einzug der Festwirte und Brauereien (Parade of the Oktoberfest landlords and breweries) and the Trachten- und Schützenzug (traditional costume and marksmen parade) are issued by Festring München (info@festring.de). 

A filming permit is no longer required for journalistic picture and TV reporting using simple equipment. See under “Filming and photography” for details.

Workstations with Wi-Fi access are available in the press container. Access is via a separate entrance behind the Festhalle  Schottenhamel. A valid press pass facilitates access but is not a requirement.

A car park will be set up for the media in the southern part of the Theresienwiese (access road 10, via Hans-Fischer-Strasse). Day parking passes can be purchased on site at the entrance to the parking lot for € 22.
A free parking permit is available to anyone who can prove a severe disability or who regularly has to transport heavy equipment typical of their profession onto the Oktoberfest ground. Only one free parking pass is available per editorial office.

Media representatives receive a free admission ticket to the Oide Wiesn. This can be collected in person at the Oktoberfest Press Office during opening hours. It is not necessary to apply in advance.

Pictures and videos featuring the Oktoberfest and Munich and the new Oktoberfest logo can be conveniently downloaded from the München Tourismus media portal after one-off registration.
