Greening support programme

The city grants a financial subsidy to owners who green their front garden, courtyard, roof or façade or unseal an area.

Description

The City of Munich grants subsidies to owners for the greening of courtyards, front gardens, roofs and façades as well as for the near-natural greening of company premises.

Anyone who designs the asphalted courtyard on their private property with new, water-permeable surfaces or greening the area can also apply for a grant from the City of Munich.

The exact amount of the grant depends on the size and type of greening or unsealing. You can find more detailed information in the table "Overview of funding criteria and funding rates" in the guidelines.

Get in touch with us before you start building.

Prerequisites

You can apply for funding for greening if the greening is a voluntary measure, the property comprises at least four residential units or it is a commercial property.

Roof greening is independent of the number of residential units.

Green roofs

  • cool the roof and surroundings in summer through evaporation and reduced heating,
  • insulate in winter and prevent extreme temperature fluctuations,
  • save energy,
  • store rainwater,
  • can contribute to biodiversity with the right choice of plants,
  • extend the service life of the roof structure and require little maintenance.

Façade greening

  • have positive effects on air quality and urban ecology,
  • reduce the heating of the building in summer,
  • retain rainwater and
  • and offer insects and birds a new habitat in the urban greenery.

Wild vine, clematis, knotweed, wisteria or honeysuckle climb upwards extremely quickly and provide a natural experience through the changing seasons.

Green spaces on company premises

  • can enhance the architecture of company buildings,
  • ensure the well-being of employees and
  • are low-maintenance

The greening of roof surfaces, facades and company premises with native shrubs, perennials and grasses can be recognised both in the ÖKOPROFIT environmental management system and as part of the European environmental certification system EMAS.
