Old people's and service centres (ASZ)

The centres for the elderly and service centres offer local advice and practical help for older people and their relatives.

Description

Companions in old age

There are 33 centres for the elderly and service centres in Munich (list as PDF). The ASZ concept, which is unique in Germany, combines preventative and care services.

The ASZs are open to all people, regardless of origin, skin colour, religion, education, disability, sexual and gender orientation or social status.

What do the ASZs offer?

Older people and those in their private environment receive counselling and specific help from socio-educational specialists. They

  • arrange and organise assistance,
  • coordinate home care services,
  • provide direct everyday care services themselves (such as social lunches, care services for people with mental health problems or dementia) and
  • offer home visits.

A wide range of groups and courses as well as information and social events enable people to establish and maintain social contacts.

Intercultural and culturally specific programmes for migrants and intergenerational events are also part of the range of services offered by the ASZ.

Civic engagement is also intensively promoted in the ASZ. Volunteers are very welcome at the ASZ, where they receive guidance, training and support. Depending on their wishes, volunteers can work both in the local ASZ and directly with older people.

In difficult financial situations, it is possible to have lunch free of charge or at a reduced price. Please contact the staff at the ASZ in your district in confidence.

Preventive home visits

Preventive home visits are also offered for senior citizens. Older people - even if they do not yet need any help - can obtain comprehensive advice on topics relating to ageing and services for the elderly.

Aims of the ASZ

The main objectives of the work in the ASZ are

  • To strengthen and maintain independence,
  • support people to remain in their own home environment,
  • strengthen and maintain mental and physical health,
  • Avoid loneliness, isolation and marginalisation.
