International school partnerships

International school partnerships can be funded by the City of Munich. The school receives a voluntary financial subsidy for this.

Description

If you would like to apply for funding for an international school exchange, you can submit an application to the Pedagogical Institute-Centre for Municipal Education Management (International Education Cooperation Department)

With an international school partnership, you can strengthen international co-operation and communication. As part of the international school partnership, the students visit the partner school abroad and receive the exchange students in Munich. During the project, you will develop a joint product with your colleagues and the pupils from both schools. You can find more details in the FAQs.

Prerequisites

  • Your school location has a postcode from 80331 to 81929.
  • You have a partner school abroad.
  • Your school management has authorised the school partnership.
  • Your school is developing a product together with the partner school as part of a joint project.
  • At least 5 pupils from your school must take part in the school partnership.

Required documents

  • Please complete the application form as the accompanying teacher.
  • To finalise your school partnership, please send the proof of use/payment request with the relevant supporting documents to the International Education Cooperation department.

Duration & Costs

Processing time

Please complete the application form at least 6 weeks before the start of the first exchange programme. The application will usually be processed and, if necessary, approved within about 6 weeks.

Questions & Answers

What is a product?

Encounters between Munich schoolchildren and their foreign partners are funded if they work together on a project or topic and a presentable product in the form of a visible result is available at the end. In principle, projects from all areas of social coexistence that promote diversity-conscious, intercultural learning are possible.

How do I find a partner school?

Many school partnerships come about through personal contacts or with the help of official institutions, which you can find under Forms & Links. Participation in EU education programmes can also lead to a "classic" school partnership. Our office will also support you with enquiries and placement requests.

Can teachers' travel expenses also be reimbursed?

Travelling expenses can be reimbursed for municipal teachers. To do so, the trip abroad must be authorised in writing by the school management or the supervisor before the start of the trip. The application for reimbursement of travel expenses must be submitted to the department within six months of the end of the trip.
