Questions & Answers
The City Youth Welfare Office is committed to designing its services in such a way that they are equally accessible and usable by all children and young people.
Our approach to inclusion aims to prevent any form of exclusion and to ensure that all children and young people, regardless of their gender, cultural and social background, or disability, have the opportunity to participate.
If your child requires support or has special needs, you can register them on a priority basis.
To ensure individualised support during the programmes, we require the following information when booking via email: details of the programme you wish to book, the support required, the child’s or young person’s age, and a brief but informative description of their developmental stage and behaviour. Through a consultation, we will work with you to find the most suitable programme.
Although not all holiday destinations are accessible, we try to cater for individual needs and make participation possible.
All children and young people aged between five and 17 who have their main residence in the Munich city area (postcodes 80*** – 81***).
You are welcome to register your child for several holiday camps.
A maximum of six bookings per child or young person is permitted for the entire holiday period (for example, the summer holidays). All children and young people may take part in a maximum of three camps, which must not exceed a total duration of four weeks.
Justified exceptions (integration) are possible. It is essential to consult the City Youth Welfare Office’s Holiday Programmes department.
From December onwards, the holiday camp leaflet will be sent digitally to all schools in Munich and will also be available at the City Information Desk in the Town Hall, as well as in many municipal libraries and youth centres. You can download the detailed programme and descriptions of the individual trips as a PDF from this page or directly from our online registration platform.
The destinations range from the Bavarian countryside to locations abroad, such as Italy or Slovenia. You can find the exact, up-to-date destinations in the programme booklet.
The number of participants varies from trip to trip and depends on the local accommodation and the educational concept of the trip. Group sizes range from 16 to 40 children. You can find the exact number in the description of the respective trip on our online registration platform.
This depends on the number of participants on the trip. As a rule, between five and nine volunteers accompany the trip. Each team of supervisors is assigned at least one team leader, who is also responsible for responding to telephone enquiries.
The supervisors are usually between 18 and 35 years old.
The majority of the supervisors are young people who have already completed a teaching qualification (for example, training as a nursery teacher or a student of social pedagogy). The supervisors attend a compulsory introductory seminar at the City Youth Welfare Office, where they are taught the essentials regarding duty of care, swimming pool regulations and educational principles.
You can register your child for the chosen activity via the online registration platform. For a detailed explanation of the registration process and the different ticket types, please read our ‘How to’ guide carefully. You can find this in various languages under ‘Links & Downloads’.
If your child or young person has increased support needs. For example, does your child have a physical or mental disability, or do they display behavioural issues that mean they require more or specialised support? In this case, please contact us by email or telephone. During a consultation, we will find a leisure activity that caters specifically to your child’s individual needs. The registration period takes place before places are allocated via the standard lottery system. Please refer to the programme booklet for the dates of the “Priority Registration” period.
The participation fee for a holiday camp is set out in the description of the relevant trip. This is calculated based on category-specific daily rates.
For all camps, you must provide your child with spending money for excursions. As a rule, this amounts to between 10 and 20 euros per week. Please refer to the programme booklet or the information sheet you receive with your confirmation of registration for the exact amount. The excursion money must be paid in cash at the departure point.
In addition, you can give your child some pocket money to take on the trip, which can be kept either by the child themselves or by the team of carers. This money is freely available to your child for shopping and other expenses.
The participation fee is reduced to the amount stated in the programme booklet. Please provide us with a copy of your complete and valid benefits notification. You can find more detailed information in the programme booklet.
In addition – depending on the holiday camp – there are extra costs as well as the excursion fee. No discount is available on these. If a subsidy is granted whilst receiving benefits, no sibling discount is available.
The participation fee can be reduced by a grant from municipal funds. There is no legal entitlement to this grant. Please submit your documents unsolicited once you have received confirmation of a place.
Information on the discount schemes
If several children from the same family take part in a holiday camp, the Simsala Circus or a workshop, the youngest sibling is eligible for a 10 per cent discount and each additional child for a 20 per cent discount on the participation fee. Please complete the registration form accordingly.
Cancellations must always be made in writing! Please refer to our terms and conditions in the programme booklet for details of cancellation fees.
Participants are provided with breakfast, lunch and dinner. At our holiday accommodation, we consistently ensure a healthy and balanced diet that includes organic produce. On self-catering camps (for example, at campsites), participants cook together with the camp leaders. Free drinks (tea or mineral water) are also available to children and young people throughout the day.
On all our trips, it is possible to have vegetarian or pork-free meals. Please let the holiday programme team or the supervisors know in advance so that the kitchen can be informed.
Our holiday programmes are designed for children and young people aged between five and 17. They generally cover an age range of no more than four years, for example 8–12 years. This age requirement is specified in the brochure and on the online registration platform for each holiday programme and is binding.
Children and young people sleep in shared rooms or tents, separated by gender.
It is important that we are informed in advance of any allergies, intolerances or similar conditions. Please note that we cannot guarantee or ensure full compliance with special dietary requirements at all times. Further information can be found in the brochure. We try to respond to individual needs flexibly, so it is helpful to discuss these matters by telephone with our information line.
From years of experience, we know that some children get homesick. Homesickness is usually not alleviated by parental visits or telephone calls, but is often exacerbated, and is quickly forgotten when children are playing together. We would therefore ask you to refrain from visiting during the holiday camps. Telephone calls should be kept to a minimum. However, if a telephone call is absolutely essential, this is of course possible at any time. Please always discuss this with the on-site team leaders first! You will find the team mobile number in the trip information sheet.
We will inform you of the departure and arrival times in the trip information sheet, which you will receive with your registration confirmation. The outward and return journeys are usually made by coach from the coach park at Hansastraße 51–53, 81373 Munich. Trips that use public transport start and end either at Munich Central Station or at the Central Coach Station at Hackerbrücke (ZOB).
Please refer to the information sheet or the separate packing list that you will receive with your confirmation of registration.
The City Youth Welfare Office’s swimming regulations are very strict. This means that children must register with the lifeguard, and one supervisor will oversee a maximum of eight children in the water. In addition, a consent form for swimming must be provided for all participants.
Every night, a supervisor is on night duty and is available to the children at any time.
In the event of illness or an accident, the team leader will contact the parents by telephone immediately. For this reason, it is essential that you can be reached by telephone by our team at all times!
Throughout the entire holiday period, a full-time educational specialist from the City Youth Welfare Office is on 24-hour on-call duty. They are available to the care team round the clock.
The City Youth Welfare Office employs supervisors who help ensure that children and young people enjoy varied and relaxing holidays. They look after the children on an individual basis, as far as this is possible within the framework of the holiday camp, and contact the parents in the event of any complications.
As a last resort, we unfortunately have to send home children and young people who are unable to fit into the group or who significantly disrupt the group. Parents will be contacted in advance and kept informed of events on site. Parents or their authorised representatives must be contactable by the City Youth Welfare Office during the holiday programme and are obliged to collect their children in such cases.
We aim to regulate participants’ mobile phone use on the camps. Whilst mobile phones and smartwatches are permitted on the trips, they should not be in constant use. For this reason, they will be collected by the supervisory team during the trips and returned to the children once or twice a day at set times. The maximum usage time is based on the general recommendations for the respective age groups.
The aim is to promote experiences, independence and a sense of community. Of course, emergency contacts can be reached at any time via the team leader’s mobile!
In general, we would advise against sending your child on the trip with a mobile phone or smartwatch, as these are not strictly necessary. Participants should be given the opportunity to consciously enjoy and organise their free time without digital media.
