The holiday camps usually last between one and two weeks and are only aimed at children and young people aged between five and 17 who live in the Munich city area.

The programme ranges from action days for sports enthusiasts to riding holidays on a variety of horse farms and nature experience programmes in the foothills of the Alps or the Bavarian Forest. The programme destinations include the Bavarian countryside as well as northern Germany, Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.

The trips include overnight stays, are fully supervised and are accompanied by volunteers from the municipal youth welfare office. Catering for the participants is also included.

Preferential booking for children with disabilities and support needs

The City Youth Welfare Office has set itself the task of organising its services in such a way that they are equally accessible and usable for all children and young people.


Our concept of inclusion aims to avoid any form of marginalisation and to give all children and young people the opportunity to participate, regardless of their gender, cultural and social background or disability.

If your child requires support or has a special need, you can give them priority enrolment.

In order to provide individual support during the programme, we require information about the desired programme, the need for support, the age and brief and meaningful information about the child's/young person's developmental stage and behaviour in order to make a booking by email. We will work with you to find the right programme through a consultation.

Even if not all holiday destinations are barrier-free, we try to cater to individual needs and make participation possible.


Who can take part in holiday camps?

All children and young people between the ages of five and 17 who have their main residence in the Munich city area (postcode 80*** - 81***).

Can my child take part in a holiday camp several times a year?

You are welcome to register your child for several holiday camps.

For the summer holiday draw, you can register your child for a maximum of six different offers. After the draw, your child can take part in a maximum of four offers during the summer holidays. The carnival and Easter holidays are excluded from these limits.

Can my child take part even though he or she does not fit into the designated age group?

Justified exceptions (integration) are possible. Consultation with the City Youth Welfare Office is mandatory.

Where can I see the programme for the holiday camps?

From the end of November, the holiday camps flyer will be distributed to all Munich schools and will also be available at the city information centre in the town hall and in many city libraries and youth leisure centres. The detailed programme and descriptions of the individual trips can be downloaded as a PDF on this page or directly from our online registration platform.

What destinations are there?

The destinations range from the north of Germany and the Bavarian countryside to Italy, Slovenia and Croatia. The exact, current destinations can be found in the programme booklet.

How many children are travelling?

The number of participants varies from trip to trip and depends on the local accommodation and the educational concept of the trip. Group sizes vary between 16 and 40 children. You can find the exact number in the description of each trip on our online registration platform.

How many carers go on each trip?

This depends on the number of participants on the trip. As a rule, five to nine volunteers accompany the trip. At least one team leader is assigned to each supervising team, who is also responsible for contacting them by telephone.

How old are the carers?

The carers are usually between 18 and 35 years old.

What criteria are used to select the carers?

Most of the carers are young people who have already completed educational training (e.g. training as an educator, student of social pedagogy, etc.). The carers complete a compulsory basic seminar at the City Youth Welfare Office, where they are taught the most important knowledge about duty of supervision, bathing regulations and pedagogy.


Enrolment procedure and costs


How do I register my child for a trip?

You register your child for the desired programme via the online registration platform. For a detailed explanation of the registration procedure and ticket types, please read our "How it works" guide carefully. These can be found in various languages under "Links & Downloads".


In which cases can I give my child priority registration?

If your child/young person has increased support needs. For example, if your child has a physical or mental impairment or shows behavioural problems that require more or special care, please contact us by email or telephone. A counselling session will be held to find a leisure activity that meets your child's individual needs. The registration period is before the allocation of places through the regular lottery procedure. Please refer to the programme booklet for the "preferential booking" period.

What costs will I incur?

The participation fee for a holiday camp can be found in the description of the respective trip. This is calculated according to categorical daily rates.
You are required to give your child an excursion fee for all holiday camps. As a rule, the excursion fee is between 10 and 20 euros per week. The exact amount can be found in the programme booklet or the information sheet that you will receive with the registration confirmation. The excursion fee must be paid in cash at the departure point.

You can also give your child pocket money to take with them on the trip, which can be kept by the child or the team of carers. This money is freely available to your child for shopping and other things.


I receive benefits, how much do I have to pay?

The participation fee is reduced to the amount stated in the programme booklet. Please send us a copy of the complete and valid benefit certificate. You can find more detailed information in the programme booklet.
Depending on the holiday camp, there are also additional costs and the excursion fee. No discount is possible on this. If a subsidy is granted in the case of benefit receipt, no reduction for siblings is possible.

I have a low/medium income. Can the participation fee be reduced?

The participation fee can be reduced by a subsidy from municipal funds. There is no legal entitlement to this subsidy. After you have indicated that you would like to apply for a reduction when registering online, you will be asked to send us all supporting documents by post. Municipal funds are limited. They will be processed upon receipt. If you have any questions, you can contact the information line at 233-33 833.

Are discounts possible if several siblings take part in the trips?

If several children from one family are taking part in a holiday camp, the Simsala circus or a workshop, the younger sibling can receive a 10 per cent discount and each additional child a 20 per cent discount on the participation fee. Please complete the registration form accordingly.

How can I withdraw from the holiday camp?

Cancellations must always be made in writing! The cancellation fees can be found in our conditions of participation in the programme booklet.

Programme of the holiday camp


How will my child be catered for?

Participants receive breakfast, lunch and dinner. In our holiday accommodation, we consistently ensure a healthy, balanced and organic diet. On self-catering camps (for example on campsites), the participants cook together with the carers. Children and young people are also provided with free drinks (tea or mineral water) during the day.

Is there an option for vegetarian or pork-free food?

It is possible to eat vegetarian or pork-free food on all our holidays. This must be communicated to the holiday programme team or the supervisors in advance so that the kitchen can be informed.

How old are the children going on holiday?

Our holiday offers are designed for children and young people aged between five and 17. They generally cover a maximum age range of four years, for example 8 - 12 years. This age requirement is stated in the brochure and on the online registration platform for each holiday camp and is binding.

Are girls and boys accommodated together?

The children and young people sleep separately by gender in shared rooms or tents. There are special holiday camps for boys and girls.

What should I bear in mind if I have allergies or intolerances?

It is important that we are informed in advance of any allergies, intolerances or similar. Please note that 100% compliance with the special diet cannot be guaranteed at all times. Further information can be found in the brochure. We endeavour to react individually and flexibly to special requirements, which is why it is advantageous to make arrangements by telephone with our information hotline.

Can I visit or call my child?

We know from years of experience that some children get homesick. Homesickness is usually not alleviated by parental visits and telephone calls, but often increases and is quickly forgotten during joint play activities. We would therefore ask you to refrain from visiting during the holiday camps. Telephone calls should be kept to a minimum. If a telephone call is nevertheless very important, this is of course possible at any time. Please always discuss this with the team leader on site! When and where does the departure take place?

We will inform you of the departure and arrival times in the information sheet for the trip, which you will receive with your registration confirmation. The outward and return journeys are usually made by coach from the coach park at Hansastraße 51 - 53, 81373 Munich. Camps that use public transport start and end either at Munich Central Station at the Central Bus Station at Hackerbrücke (ZOB).


What does my child need to take with them on the trip?

Please refer to the information sheet or the separate packing list that you will receive with the confirmation of enrolment.

How will my child be supervised while swimming?

The City Youth Welfare Office's swimming regulations are very strict. This means that you must register with the pool attendant and one supervisor will supervise a maximum of eight children in the water. In addition, all participants must have a declaration of consent for swimming.

Can my child also contact the carers at night?

A carer is on night watch every night and can be contacted by the children at any time.

Will I be informed if my child is ill or has an accident?

The team leader will contact the parents immediately by telephone in the event of illness or accident. For this reason, it is essential that you are available to our team by telephone at all times!

Is it possible for the childcare team to contact the Youth Welfare Office in case of an emergency or uncertainty?

A full-time pedagogical specialist from the City Youth Welfare Office is on call 24 hours a day during the entire leisure time. This person can be contacted by the childcare team around the clock.

What happens if my child doesn't feel well?

The City Youth Welfare Office employs carers who help to ensure that the children and young people have a varied and relaxing holiday. They look after the children individually, as far as this is possible within the holiday community, and contact the parents in the event of complications.
As a last resort, we unfortunately have to send children and young people home if they are unable to fit in with the group or significantly disrupt the community. Parents will be contacted in advance and involved in what is happening on site. Parents or their authorised representatives must be contactable by the Youth Welfare Office during the leisure time and are obliged to pick up their children in such cases.
