Drilling and working in groundwater
Work that penetrates so deeply into the ground that groundwater could be encountered must be reported at least one month before the planned start of work.
Description
This work includes, for example, groundwater measuring points, exploratory drillings and ground soundings. Drilling work with the following objectives must be notified using a notification form:
- Installation of a geothermal probe
- Construction of a well for garden irrigation
- thermal utilisation of groundwater by means of a heat pump
- Installation of a cooling system
The maximum groundwater level is decisive for the obligation to notify.
If groundwater is tapped unintentionally, this must be reported immediately to the Department for Climate and Environmental Protection, Water Law Division.
Boreholes that only tap into quaternary gravel and are not located in the water protection area may be started one month afterreceipt of the notification withcomplete documentation, provided that the work has not been prohibited within this period.
Drillings that go several metres into the deeper tertiary layers (clay, silt, sand) require a permit under water law in addition to the drilling notification.
Required documents
All documents are required on paper in duplicate as well as in digital form.
- Completed notification form
- General site plan M 1:25,000 with marking of the project location
- Detailed site plan M 1:5,000 or M 1:1,000 with entry of the project
- Expected layer profile of the subsoil (for groundwater measuring points with schematic expansion plan)
