Apply for a temporary restaurant licence

A temporary licence is required for the temporary serving of alcohol for a special occasion (anniversary celebration, Christmas market, club party).

Description

Your point of contact for the temporary catering licence is always the department responsible for approving the ‘main event’.

  • If the Events and Meetings Office (VVB) is handling the main event, please also contact this office regarding the temporary catering licence.
  • In all other cases, please contact the Department for District Standards responsible for the venue (city district) to apply for a temporary catering licence.

Important note

This is a simplified form of authorisation, which is limited in duration to the planned event and is granted subject to revocation.

Application deadlines:

  • Department for District Standards: for smaller events held in licensed pubs or commercial premises, four weeks in advance
  • Events and Assemblies Office: six weeks in advance for larger events

Yes, in this case too, a temporary catering licence (permit) must be applied for. The authorities will then check which requirements apply in your case. If it is established that a commercial interest can be ruled out and the prices are in any case significantly below the usual local or market offer, a temporary catering licence is not required.
