Special payment for pupils

Pupils starting school in Munich for the first time or transferring to a secondary school can receive a special payment.

Course description

The special payment is an additional aid from the City of Munich in addition to the statutory lump sum for school supplies.

This benefit is only available to pupils who are attending school in Munich for the first time or who are transferring to a secondary school (Mittelschule, Realschule, Gymnasium or Gesamtschule).

Prerequisites

The receipt of benefits for subsistence in accordance with SGB II, SGB XII or the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act (AsylbLG).

Required documents

  • A letter from the school confirming the child’s name and the year group they will be joining for the first time in the coming school year.
  • The fully completed application form for the special payment.
  • If you are receiving basic income support, the current notification from the Munich Job Centre is required.

Pupils at schools in Munich receive a statutory lump-sum allowance for school supplies of 130 euros at the start of the school year and 65 euros at the start of the second school term.

In addition, the City of Munich provides a special payment of 150 euros when a child starts school or moves to a secondary school, as extra support.

It is intended to cover the many purchases required, such as school bags, pencil cases, art sets, workbooks and compasses.

The special payment is available to pupils who receive maintenance benefits under SGB II, SGB XII or under the Asylum Seekers’ Benefits Act (AsylbLG), who are starting school in Munich for the first time or transferring to a secondary school (Mittelschule, Realschule, Gymnasium or Gesamtschule).

You can claim the special payment by applying at your local
Sozialbürgerhaus.

Once all the necessary documents have been submitted, the special payment will be transferred to your bank account. Applications can be submitted until 31 October of the current year.

​Those entitled to benefits under the Asylum Seekers’ Benefits Act should visit the Office for Housing and Migration at Werinherstraße 89, 81541 Munich, bringing the necessary documents with them.
