Street performers require a permit to perform in Munich's pedestrian zone and other city centre areas.

Description

Dear street artists,

even if the city and city administration are generally happy to have you perform in the pedestrian zone, experience in recent years has shown that the large number of performances is also perceived as a nuisance by at least some residents, business people and employees. It is therefore necessary to observe a few rules:

  • Street performers require a permit for their performance in Munich's pedestrian zone (see map) and in the areas of Schrammerstraße, Dienerstraße, Landschaftstraße, Sendlinger Straße and Tal.
  • The permit must be displayed in such a way that it can be viewed at all times.
  • Street music and art is permitted on an area of up to 10 square metres.
  • Street performers are generally free to choose their stand location, but must keep a reasonable distance from sales stands and other street performers.
  • The stand location must be changed after one hour at the latest. The next stand must be at a sufficient distance from the previous stand so that the performance can no longer be heard there. Statues and street painters are exempt from this rule.
  • Each stand may only be occupied once per day, whereby the entire Marienplatz is considered one stand.
  • In the event of obstructions or complaints, the stand must be changed immediately.
  • During the carillon at Marienplatz, the performance must be interrupted for 15 minutes.
  • Playing music in or from the arcade areas is not permitted.
  • The playing of music and amplification is not permitted.
  • Performances with animals or performances (with fire, knives, etc.) that could pose a danger to spectators will not be authorised.

Prerequisites

  • All artists must present their performance at the City Information Centre before the first permit is issued.
  • Permits can only be collected in person and upon presentation of an identification document.

Duration & Costs

Fees

An administrative fee of 10 euros is charged for issuing the authorisation.
