Anyone wishing to set up parklets (installations in parking bays) on public land requires a special use permit.

Description

Anyone wishing to set up parklets on public land requires a special use permit. Parklets are non-commercial, limited conversions of parking space.

Prerequisites

  • No commercial use
  • Permitted use, for example: greenery, bookshelf, exchange shelf, seating, bicycle parking facility
  • Suitable installation location from a road safety point of view
  • Maximum of two parking spaces
  • At least 1 metre high protection from the roadway
  • Level transition between pavement and car park
  • Construction in accordance with the generally recognised rules of architecture and technology, e.g. no protruding nails or slippery surfaces

The district committee responsible for the district in question decides on the parklet. Only after the district committee has made its decision will you receive written authorisation or rejection from the district inspectorate of the district administration department.

  • Utilisation and design concept
  • Fully completed application form
  • Proof of resident participation
  • Written consent of the neighbouring ground floor users
  • Neighbourhood plan of the installation site
  • Photo of the installation site

Duration & Costs

Processing time

Usually six to eight weeks (depending on the duration of the decision by the district committee).

Administration fee: 60 Euro

Special utilisation fee: None

Additional private costs for construction and signposting of the parklet, possibly also for a construction site permit to set up the parklet

No, an application must be submitted to the local district inspectorate for an open-air bar area on car parks.

No, if a parklet is intended purely for use as a bicycle parking facility, it is not necessary to create a level transition to the pavement.
