Resident parking permit
If you live in a parking licence area and do not have a private parking space for your vehicle, you can apply for a parking permit.
Description
New application
Have you moved to a parking licence area or have you got a new vehicle? Then you can apply for a new resident parking permit. You can only receive one parking permit per resident, even if several vehicles are registered to you. However, up to three vehicles can be registered on the permit.
Extension
As a rule, you will receive a reminder letter approximately six weeks before your parking permit expires. If you wish to keep your parking permit under the same conditions (same licence plate and address), you do not need to submit a new application. You only need to transfer the fee stated in the reminder letter. If you have not received a reminder letter, please submit a new application in good time.
Even if you make an appointment in person, you will not receive your parking permit immediately. The easiest and quickest way to get your parking permit is to apply online.
Prerequisites
- You are registered as a resident in a licence area and have a motor vehicle that is registered in your name or is demonstrably used by you on a permanent basis.
- You do not have a private parking space for a vehicle.
- Trailers and vehicles that are primarily intended for commercial use due to their design cannot be entered in the resident parking permit.
- Foreign licence plates are not normally entered in the resident parking permit. If the vehicle is primarily used in Germany, it must generally be registered in Germany.
Required documents
You must upload the following documents for the online application:
- Copy of your registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document)
- If the vehicle is not registered to you: Confirmation from the vehicle owner that you are using the vehicle permanently.
- If you use the vehicle of a Car-Sharing organisation: Proof of your membership.
Questions & Answers
If you move to another parking licence area, your existing parking permit will unfortunately expire without replacement. You will need to apply for a new parking permit for the new licence area.
If you are temporarily unable to use your private parking space due to construction work, for example, will you receive a parking permit? If you state the garage conversion in your application and provide proof, you will receive a temporary parking permit. Please use our online application form.
As long as your car (which is registered in the resident parking permit) is in the workshop, you can apply for a temporary parking permit for the workshop vehicle (fee 10 euros). To do so, you must submit a confirmation from the garage and a copy of the registration certificate part 1 for the vehicle.
In the case of company vehicles, you must prove that you are authorised to use the vehicle privately and that you pay tax on the use as a non-cash benefit using the 1 per cent rule.
If you do not have your own vehicle but regularly hire a vehicle (for example from Sixt, Europcar or Hertz), you can obtain a parking permit with the entry "changing vehicles" under certain conditions. To do this, you must prove (rental contracts from the previous year) that you frequently rent vehicles.
You can either apply for a parking permit for your main residence or for your secondary residence. It is not possible to issue a parking permit for both residences.
