Relabelling the vehicle

If you would like to change your licence plates, you can have your vehicle relabelled.

Prerequisites

The vehicle is already registered to you in Munich.

Required documents

  • Identity card or passport
  • For legal entities, companies and associations: Extract from the commercial or association register and business registration
  • In the case of representation: original written power of attorney as well as ID of the authorised representative (original) and ID of the principal (copy)
  • Registration certificate part I (vehicle licence)
  • Registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document)
  • Test report or entry in the registration certificate part I on valid general inspection (HU)
  • For commercial vehicles: safety inspection
  • The previous licence plates / the previous number plate

Short-term licence plates with foreign vehicle documents

Short-term licence plates are national licence plates that are only permitted for test and transfer journeys within Germany. They are valid for a maximum of 6 days.

If you have a diesel vehicle with Euro 4 or worse, you need a special permit to drive in the Munich low emission zone under certain conditions

100 km/h sticker for authorised trailers

You can apply for a 100 km/h sticker for trailers if the suitability is proven according to the registration certificate or COC document.
