Description

Are you already working in the field of international youth work and would now like to get involved as a volunteer team leader? Then apply now and become an accompanying person on our exchange programmes.
You will work closely with the programme coordinators from the International Educational Cooperation department at the Pedagogical Institute. You will also liaise with the international and local partners on site. As a team leader, you will help with introductory and selection interviews, information evenings and preparation and follow-up modules and will accompany the student groups at home and abroad. You will be the direct contact person for the young people, their families, coordinators and the team leaders in the host country. Regular participation in training courses on (international) youth work topics is also desirable.

Prerequisites

  • Experience with intercultural and possibly international youth work.
  • Pedagogical skills in dealing with young people.
  • Independence, flexibility and empathy.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English (English level B2).
  • At least 18 years of age for the accompaniment abroad and at least 16 years of age for participation in individual programme modules in Germany.

Required documents

  • Proof of a first aid course of 16 hours or a refresher course of eight hours. The certificate must not be older than two years.
  • An extended police clearance certificate that is no more than two years old.
  • A passport for stays abroad outside the EU
  • An ESTA or visa for travelling to the USA

Duration & Costs

Processing time

After submitting the online application form, you will receive an automatic confirmation of receipt. If your application is successful, you will be invited to a selection interview. You will find out whether you can take part in the programme a few weeks after the selection interview.

Fees

The costs for participation in the programme (travel, meals, accommodation) are covered by the Department of International Educational Cooperation of the Pedagogical Institute. In addition, all team leaders receive an honorary allowance. This amount is based on the rates set by the department. The daily rate in Germany is 50 euros for a full-day assignment and 30 euros for a half-day assignment. The daily rate abroad is 30 euros.

Questions & Answers

When does the programme take place?
Selection interviews usually take place in autumn and spring. The measures abroad are planned for the Bavarian school holidays. Accompanying the domestic programmes is particularly important in June and July. The preparation and follow-up meetings take place in the afternoons, evenings or at weekends.

How many teamers accompany a group?
Two team leaders from Munich and two from abroad accompany the group.

How many young people are in a group?
There are usually 30 students in a group.

Where do I live abroad?
You will stay with a host family, youth hostel or hostel during your stay.

Do I need insurance?
Yes, you need international health, accident and liability insurance.

Do I have to apply for the ESTA/visa myself?
Yes, you must apply for your ESTA/visa yourself. We will be happy to assist you with the application if required.

Is it possible to be accompanied abroad as a new team leader?
It has proven to be a good idea for our volunteer chaperones to gain experience accompanying youth groups in Munich during their first year. This allows them to build up a trusting working relationship. It is therefore possible to accompany them abroad from the second year onwards.
