School counselling - grammar school

We support and advise you on topics relating to grammar school and general questions about your school career.

Description

Admission
In addition to the usual entry after Year 4 of primary school, there are also other options for lateral entry:

  • Entry into the entry class
  • Lateral entry into a higher year group
  • Entry with a secondary school leaving certificate

Lateral entry is normally only possible via an entrance examination (counselling interview is advisable). With an intermediate school-leaving certificate from a middle school, business school or secondary school, it is possible to enter an introductory class or, under certain conditions, a regular class. There is also the possibility of a counselling interview about the comprehensive range of grammar schools in Munich.

Graduation
The grammar school normally ends with the Abitur (general higher education entrance qualification) after eight or nine years. This can also be taken by non-students. After year 10, it is possible to leave the grammar school with the intermediate school leaving certificate.

School problems
If problems arise during the school years, they can usually be counteracted in good time or alternative educational paths can be taken.

Learning and performance problems, change of school

  • change to another type of school
  • early termination of school attendance: regulations on compulsory schooling
  • final examinations as an external student
    • at secondary school: Qualifying secondary school leaving certificate or intermediate school leaving certificate
    • at the business school
    • at the Realschule

Transitions
In addition to taking up a course of study, there are also other educational pathways in the vocational or academic field to choose from after secondary school:

  • Transfer to a specialised secondary school after year 10
  • Entry into working life from year 9 or after the Abitur

For example, we can advise you on the following topics by telephone, e-mail or in person:

  • Admission
  • Graduation
  • School problems
  • Transitions

You can also find a lot of information on these topics in our information sheets, which you can find under "Forms & Links".
