Monument protection
Anyone wishing to remove, alter or relocate monuments or parts thereof requires a permit in accordance with the Bavarian Monument Protection Act.
Description
In order to protect monuments and ensembles in the city of Munich, a licence under monument protection law is required for alterations to monuments.
This also applies to buildings in ensembles and to buildings in the vicinity of monuments.
In the case of listed buildings, listed building protection covers not only the façade but also the interior of the building, outbuildings and ancillary facilities such as enclosures.
You can find out whether your building is a listed building or is located in an ensemble area from the Lower Monument Protection Authority.
You must apply in writing for a listed building licence.
As part of a building permit procedure, the building permit replaces this authorisation. A separate application for permission is then not necessary.
Required documents
- Description of the planned measures,
- Illustration of the building and/or the component to be modified (e.g. window plan, photos, etc.),
- Description of the intended change,
- Timetable for the realisation of the measure,
- Information on previous consultations with the monument protection and/or building authorities.
