Hygiene monitoring of Munich's shared accommodation centres

The Health Department monitors hygiene in the shared accommodation centres for adults in the city of Munich specified in Section 36 of the Infection Protection Act.

Description

The communal accommodation referred to in the Infection Protection Act includes homeless shelters, facilities for the communal accommodation of asylum seekers, refugees, late repatriates and other mass accommodation. These facilities must define internal procedural instructions for infection hygiene in hygiene plans and are subject to infection hygiene monitoring by the health authorities.

Accommodation facilities such as hotels, guest houses and halls of residence (e.g. student halls of residence) are not subject to monitoring by the health authorities under the Infection Protection Act.

Infection hygiene monitoring by the health department

The Health Protection Department in the Health Department carries out infection hygiene inspections in communal facilities for adults at least once a year using a defined catalogue of criteria. Hygiene is checked in communal areas such as sanitary facilities and kitchens. Private living spaces of residents are not inspected.

The aim of the inspections is to determine whether the general hygiene requirements are being met and to identify hygiene deficits that could favour the spread of infectious diseases in good time. If hygiene deficiencies are identified, the health department will write to the facility management asking them to rectify them.

As soon as hygiene deficiencies are reported to the Health Department outside of the regular inspections, ad hoc inspections are carried out immediately.
