Hire of school sports facilities

Course description

The Department for Education and Sport offers clubs, social organisations, privately organised groups and commercial providers the opportunity to hire the city’s school sports facilities.

Rental is generally permitted for sporting purposes only.

School sports facilities can be hired for the duration of a season, for a school year or for individual dates. Bookings during school holidays must be applied for separately for each holiday period. During the Christmas holidays, only selected sports facilities are available for competitive sport.

Types of sports facilities

• Sports halls
  • Fitness rooms
  • Small sports halls (up to 200 square metres)
  • Single-purpose halls (201 to 405 square metres)
  • Double-court halls (406 to 810 square metres)
  • Triple-court halls (811 to 1215 square metres)
• Outdoor sports facilities

Football

Football is only permitted in all sports halls for children up to the age of 13.

Futsal is only permitted under the following conditions:

• League matches and
• year-round booking

Bookings do not include school holidays or public holidays. A separate application must be submitted for these periods. Applications must be submitted at least four weeks before the start of the event. Booking slots before 8 pm are allocated primarily to children’s and youth groups.

Prerequisites

Sports halls

• Sports groups with a regular attendance of at least 10 people for ball sports and 15 people for other sports
• Hiring of double and triple halls is restricted to sports clubs participating in league competitions for the following sports:
  • Basketball
  • Volleyball
  • Badminton
  • Handball
  • Futsal
  • Hockey

Outdoor sports facilities

Available only during the summer season (from the Easter holidays to the autumn half-term)

Swimming pools

• School swimming pools

Available for use by sports clubs and swimming schools only
