Apply for a historic licence plate for classic cars

Vehicles that were first registered at least 30 years ago can receive a classic car licence plate, which is marked with an "H" at the end.

Description

  • If the vehicle was previously registered or deregistered on a seasonal licence plate, you must present a new eVB (electronic insurance confirmation).
  • From 1 October 2017, you have the option of combining a classic car licence plate with a seasonal licence plate. The licence plate may contain a maximum of two letters and three numbers or one letter and four numbers, which you can reserve online. Any longer combinations must be re-labelled for a fee.
  • If the vehicle is currently registered on a red permanent licence plate for classic cars, you must first revoke this with the authority that issued the licence plate.

Prerequisites

  • You are registered as having your main residence in Munich.
  • For legal entities, commercial enterprises, traders:
    Munich is the place of business (head office or branch)
  • The vehicle was first registered at least 30 years ago.
  • A special classic car certificate (§ 23 StVZO) confirms that the vehicle is in good condition and largely corresponds to its original condition.

Required documents

  • Identity card or passport
  • For legal entities, companies and associations: Extract from the commercial or association register (not older than 3 years from issue) and business registration
  • For minors: Declaration of consent from the legal guardian. If only one parent has parental authority, this must be proven by a custody order or a court judgement
  • In the case of guardianship for "official and administrative matters": Carer's identity card
  • For proxies: written power of attorney (original) as well as ID of the authorised representative (original) and ID of the principal (copy)
  • Declaration of consent from the vehicle owner that the vehicle tax circumstances may be disclosed to the authorised representative.
  • SEPA mandate of the vehicle owner/account holder
  • Registration certificate part I (previously vehicle registration document)
  • Registration certificate part II (previously vehicle registration document)
  • Licence plates
  • Test report on a valid general inspection
  • For commercial vehicles: safety inspection
  • Vintage car certificate in accordance with § 23 of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO)
