Vehicle disposal notification

If you sell your vehicle, you as the previous owner are obliged to report the change of ownership to your vehicle registration office (notification of sale).

Description

You can submit the notification of sale online via the contact form of the registration office.

You can select your request in the contact form: "You would like to report the disposal (sale, donation) of your vehicle"

  • On the first page, you have the option of uploading the sales contract.
  • In the free text field, please enter the date of the sale and the name and address of the buyer.
  • The licence plate number and vehicle identification number (VIN) are entered on the next page.

Processing time

The notification can be submitted online. There is nothing further for you to do as the previous holder.

Fees

There are no costs for the online notification and no fees are charged.

The notification of sale is used to inform the competent vehicle registration authority that the owner of a vehicle has changed.

Whenever the vehicle is sold. This informs the vehicle registration office of the new owner.

Yes, it is one of the legal obligations of the registered keeper to inform the responsible vehicle registration office of any changes to the vehicle (including the new owner) (§ 13 Para. 4 FZV).

The former (previous) owner is responsible for this notification, not the buyer of the vehicle.
