Travel document for refugees

If you are a refugee and have a residence title, the Foreigners Office can issue you a travel document in individual cases.

Description

The travel document for refugees can only be issued for the duration for which the residence title is valid. The travel document for refugees can be issued for a maximum of three years

Prerequisites

  • You are registered in Munich.
  • The decision of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees contains the wording "Refugee status is granted" or "Eligibility for asylum is recognised"
  • You have a valid residence title

Required documents

  • Fully completed application form for the issuance of a travel document
  • Current biometric passport photo

After we have checked everything, you will be given an appointment with us. In individual cases, further documents may be required.

  • 60 Euro (adults from 24 years)
  • 38 Euro (persons under 24 years)
  • 14 euros (children up to 12 years)

Travel abroad is possible at any time with the travel document for refugees. Please observe the visa and entry regulations of the respective destination country.

No, the travel document for refugees does not entitle you to travel to your country of origin.

If you are stateless, the Foreigners Office can issue you a travel document for stateless persons in individual cases.

Tolerated persons or holders of the right of residence between the ages of 14 and 26 can receive a residence permit if they have integrated well.

Residence permit for the asylum procedure

If you have submitted an application for asylum to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, you will receive a residence permit to carry out the asylum procedure.
