Funding for climate-neutral vehicles
If you live or work in Munich, you can apply for a subsidy for light electric vehicles, cargo pedelecs, cargo bikes or bicycle trailers.
Course description
Vehicles are subsidised with 25 percent of the net costs. The maximum subsidy amount depends on the vehicle type.
- Bicycle trailers: 250 euros
- Cargo bikes: 500 euros
- Cargo pedelecs: 750 euros
- Two- and three-wheeled electric vehicles of EC class L1e to L4e: 750 euros
- For three- and four-wheeled electric vehicles of EC classes L5e to L7e: 3,000 euros
Note: For holders of the Munich Pass, double the subsidy rate and double the maximum subsidy amount apply.
You may only purchase vehicles once you have received authorisation. A down payment already counts as a purchase contract and is only permitted after receipt of the authorisation.
Double funding with federal or state funding programmes is excluded.
Prerequisites
Bicycle trailers, cargo bikes, cargo pedelecs and light vehicles of EC vehicle classes L1e to L7e are eligible for funding. Only purely battery-electric vehicles are eligible for funding.

Pedelecs, e-scooters, e-bikes and S-pedelecs are not eligible for funding.
General requirements:
- Main residence, company headquarters or branch office in the city of Munich
- Vehicles subject to compulsory insurance must be supplied with green electricity
- Vehicle not yet purchased
- A maximum of 20 vehicles per applicant and calendar year are subsidised
- The holding period for vehicles is three years

Questions & Answers
E-cars are not eligible as they are subsidised by the federal subsidy programme. Information on the federal programme can be found on the website of the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BafA) under "Links & Downloads".
No, the vehicles fall under the above-mentioned terms: e-scooter or e-bike. Even micro e-vehicles that belong to vehicle class L1e according to the manufacturer are not subsidised. The exact criteria can be found in the funding guidelines.

- The application can be submitted online in the City of Munich's funding portal.
- You must first register here and can then submit one or more funding applications.
- Notification of funding and further communication will take place via the funding portal.

Yes, a down payment counts as a concluded purchase contract and is only permitted after receipt of the authorisation following the application in the online portal.
A down payment as part of crowdfunding also counts as the start of procurement.
If the bike is purchased through an employee leasing arrangement, the employee is the user of the vehicle. If he also bears the costs, the employee can submit an application directly. The transfer agreement with the employer then serves as proof of the purchase and the costs.
All vehicles can be purchased or leased. The leasing costs are subsidised over three years.
Yes, used vehicles are eligible. An invoice from a dealer is required. Purchases from private individuals are not possible.
A holding period of three years (36 months) is mandatory for each subsidised vehicle. The holding period begins with the payment of the subsidised amount.
All vehicles subject to insurance must be powered by green electricity.
A maximum of 20 electric vehicles per calendar year and applicant are eligible for funding.
Double funding with federal or state funding programmes is excluded.
Once the funding provided by the City of Munich has been used up, there is no further entitlement to funding.
There is a sharing bonus of 100 euros to 400 euros depending on the vehicle type. To qualify, the vehicle in question must be shared with a certain group of people. The exact criteria can be found in the subsidy guidelines.
Note: Normal pedelecs and e-bikes are not subsidised.

- Cargo pedelecs with 25 per cent of the net costs up to a maximum of 750 euros
- Two- and three-wheeled light electric vehicles (L1e to L4e) with 25 per cent of the net costs up to a maximum of 750 euros
- Three- and four-wheeled light electric vehicles (L5e to L7e) with 25 per cent of the net costs up to a maximum of 3,000 euros
- Electrical pre-equipment for charging infrastructure (up to 22kW) with 40 per cent of the net costs for planning, assembly and installation up to a maximum of EUR 1,000 per pre-equipped parking space
- Normal charging stations (up to 22kW) with 40 per cent of the net costs for acquisition and installation up to a maximum of 500 euros per charging point
- Fast charging stations (from 22kW) with 40 per cent of the net costs for planning, assembly, purchase and installation up to a maximum of €10,000 per charging point
- Consulting services with 80 per cent up to a maximum of 4,500 euros

Legal basis
The "Climate-neutral drives" funding programme is a voluntary service provided by the City of Munich. There is no legal entitlement to funding.
The allocation of funding depends on how much money is available in the city budget.
