Civil partnership certificate

If you have established your civil partnership in Munich, you can order a civil partnership certificate from us.

Description of the course

Responsibility:

  • You must request your civil partnership certificate at the place where the civil partnership was established.
  • If the civil partnership was established before a notary, you can obtain the civil partnership certificate from the registry office in whose district the notary is based.
  • Civil partnership registers that were created from 1 August 2009 for civil status cases abroad are kept at the registry office where they were created. The corresponding certificates are also issued there.
  • Certificates for civil status cases that were notarised at Registry Office I in Berlin will continue to be issued there.

Multilingual certificate (so-called "international certificate"): On request, you can also receive a multilingual civil partnership certificate. This is offered for selection in the online form as a "multilingual extract from the register". You can choose from the following languages: English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Greek, Turkish, Polish, Serbian and German Please note that these certificates are not recognised in every country, even if the national language is included in the form.

Required documents

You must complete the online form in full. Telephone orders are not possible.

In order to process your enquiry, we need some personal data from you. We restrict ourselves to necessary data only and comply with the applicable data protection laws and regulations. The data is transmitted to the responsible department in encrypted form. It will not be passed on to third parties or used outside the processing of your enquiry. By using our website, you agree to this. We will of course treat your data confidentially and encrypt it using the SSL process before it is transmitted to our server.

Duration and costs

Processing time

If you request certificates in writing or online, you must currently expect a processing time of around two weeks plus post at the Munich registry office. The certificate will be sent by post, even abroad.

In urgent cases, we recommend that you apply for the required certificate in person during opening hours. You can also authorise a person. This person must be able to identify themselves and will need a copy of your identity card or passport in addition to a written authorisation.

Fees and charges

  • A civil partnership certificate (also multilingual) costs 12 euros.
  • If you need a certificate for social security purposes (pension, health insurance), this is free of charge and is issued for a specific purpose.
  • A search fee of up to 100 euros per civil status case may be charged for inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • You can usually pay the fees online. In exceptional cases, the fee can be paid by invoice. Please pay this promptly.

Please note: The online order is not a sales contract. You are requesting an official act for which a fee is charged. The fee is always payable, even if the application is rejected or withdrawn. It is therefore generally not possible to cancel or withdraw the order.

Questions & Answers

Civil partnership registers are only kept at the registry office for 80 years. We can only issue civil partnership certificates from this register within this period. After this period, the register is subject to archive law.

The Munich registry office hands over civil status registers that no longer need to be continued to the city archives every year. Civil status certificates can no longer be issued from these registers, only copies, which can also be notarised on request. The Munich City Archive is responsible for this. Please contact:
