Applying for information from the vehicle register

In justified cases, the licensing authority can provide information about the owner or the third-party liability insurance of a vehicle.

Prerequisites

This information can be requested by private individuals, lawyers or public bodies. For data protection reasons, the application must be made in writing or in person, stating the reasons.

Required documents

If you are coming in person:

  • Identity card or passport
  • fully completed "Holder information" application form
    (you can also obtain and complete the application at the authority)
  • For representatives: written power of attorney (original) as well as ID of the authorised representative (original) and ID of the principal (copy)

If you are sending the application by post:

  • fully completed "Holder information" application form
  • or a self-written explanation of the purpose for which the information is required
  • if you are acting as a representative: written power of attorney and ID (copy) of the authorised representative and the person granting the power of attorney

An owner confirmation or data confirmation can be issued for authorities, vehicle owners, car dealerships or vehicle manufacturers.

Vehicle disposal notification

If you sell your vehicle, you as the previous owner are obliged to report the change of ownership to your vehicle registration office (notification of sale).

Have change of address entered in vehicle documents

If the address of the person or company to whom a vehicle is registered has changed, you must have this entered in the vehicle documents immediately.

Have technical modifications entered in the vehicle documents

You must report technical modifications to your vehicle to the vehicle registration authority so that they can correct the vehicle documents.
