Switching on the eID function or changing the PIN

You can activate the online ID function of your ID card or reset the PIN of your ID card or eID card.

Description

With the online ID function, you can also identify yourself on the Internet and at vending machines. This makes it easier for you to communicate with online shops, banks, insurance companies, authorities, social networks and companies and you no longer have to memorise so many passwords and user names. An activated online ID function PIN is required to be able to identify yourself online

If your online ID function has not yet been activated and/or you can no longer find your PIN letter or have forgotten your PIN, you can contact the Citizens Office.

You can only activate your online ID function or set a new PIN at the ID card or eID card authority.

The online service "PIN reset and activation service" was discontinued on 29 December 2023.

You can only activate your online ID function or set a new PIN at the Citizens Office. You need an appointment to visit the Citizens Office.
