Registration for the business schools
As a vocational school, the business school leads to the intermediate school-leaving certificate (Mittlere Reife) in a practical and modern way.
Description
The business school is a distinctive feature of the Bavarian education system. As a vocational school, it offers a practical and modern pathway to the intermediate school-leaving certificate, known as the ‘Mittlere Reife’. It provides general education and a comprehensive grounding in business studies.
Enrolment deadlines vary from school to school. They also depend on whether your child is attending the
- two-stage programme (Years 10–11),
- three-stage programme (Years 8–10)
- four-stage programme (Years 7–10) or
- five-stage business school (Years 6–10).
Trial lessons: The subjects assessed are German (text summarisation, grammar, text analysis) and Maths.

Requirements
Four-year training programme
- Your child must not yet be 15 years old on 30 June of the year of entry
- Successful completion of the 6th or 7th grade
- If transferring from Hauptschule: Transfer certificate certifies aptitude (otherwise participation in trial lessons required)
- If transferring from Hauptschule "M-Zweig", Realschule or Gymnasium: 7th grade already successfully attended or permission to advance to 7th grade
Please note: For pupils from grammar school, a grade of "sufficient" in the subjects German, maths and English is sufficient if they do not have permission to advance (otherwise participation in trial lessons is required).
Three-year programme
- Your child must not yet be 16 years old on 30 June of the year of entry
- Successful attendance of the 7th or 8th grade
- If transferring from Hauptschule: Transfer certificate certifies aptitude (otherwise participation in trial lessons required)
- If transferring from Hauptschule "M-Zweig", Realschule or Gymnasium: 8th grade already successfully attended or permission to advance to 8th grade

Two-year training programme
- qualifying secondary school leaving certificate - the subject English must have a grade of at least 3 either in the report card or in the annual report of the 9th grade. If the 9th grade of the "M" programme of the Hauptschule, Realschule or Gymnasium was not passed, the annual report card must show at least a grade 4 in the subjects German and English. There is no entrance examination. The probationary period lasts until December or until the half-year report in February.
Required documents
On the day of enrolment, legal guardians or an authorised representative (e.g. the student him/herself) must present the following original documents:
- Enrolment form - signed by the legal guardian
- Original birth certificate
- If transferring from the 6th, 7th and 8th grade of the Hauptschule, original transfer certificate
- If transferring from the 9th grade of the Hauptschule, Realschule or Gymnasium, the half-year report, the final or annual report must be submitted later
- custody order, if applicable
In exceptional cases, pupils who wish to enrol are already of legal age. In these cases, they can sign the enrolment form themselves.
